January 20th, 1977 was the last time anyone has seen then 37 year old, John Haywood Barreto. He was born September 21st, 1941, in Richmond, VA. John was raised by his mother after his father, John Joseph Barreto Jr., was lost at sea off the coast of Japan in 1945 during World War II. His last last known whereabouts were Miami, Florida. Barreto phoned his mother to wire him money, as he often did, but it is unclear as to whether he received the money before his disappearance. He had served in the Vietnam war for the United States Army, but was discharged after his drug experimentations caused mental health imbalances that affected his job performance. His enlistment date was August 9th, 1964, and his discharge date was April 7th, 1967.
John Haywood Barreto was declared dead on January 21st, 1984, but he has never been found. His family stated that after his discharge from the Army in 1967, Barreto would gravitate toward warmer climates, often traveling by bus. He is also known to drastically change his appearance, from shaving his head completely bald to crew cut, to growing it out long and growing a full beard. John Barreto has a significant burn scar that covers much of the left side of his chest and down his right arm. He also has an appendix scar, brown wavy hair and blue eyes. His facial hair was more reddish brown. Height is 5’9” and his weight was approximately 160 pounds.
