Cold Case Cleveland: The Unsolved Murders of Sonya Green and Annette Lawrence

By Carolyn Berardino

There is very little information available online regarding two cold cases in East Cleveland, Ohio. 14-year-old Sonya Green was last seen walking to school on December 15, 1982 in Cleveland Heights. Her body was found that same day on a snow bank behind Severance Center.

Just 8 days later, on December 23, 1982, schoolteacher Annette Lawrence’s body was discovered in the trunk of her car, in the same area where Sonya Green was found.

According to Fox 8 Cleveland, police say they do have DNA evidence in both cases.  Cleveland Heights Police Chief Annette Mecklenburg told Fox8, “’You are talking about two young women both found within one week of each other, both suffered a violent death and both deserve justice.’”

A $10,000 reward is being offered for any information that leads to an arrest and indictment in Sonya Green’s case. Please call 216-252-7463 with tips.

A $10,000 reward is also being offered in Annette Lawrence’s case. If you have any information, please call  Cuyahoga County Crime Stoppers at 216-252-7463
