It was the Christmas season, a time to get together with friends and family, a time for cheer. 30 year old Ernest “Bobby” Crawford Jr traveled from NYC to Buffalo NY with his wife and 3 children. Crawford was originally from Buffalo but had been living in NYC where he worked as a music producer. Little did they know, tragedy was about to strike.
On December 22, 1995 at about 12:40a.m., after Crawford tucked his children into bed at his mother’s house, he started his mother’s car to go visit a cousin he hadn’t seen for a number of years. Crawford was shot twice in the face, and died in the driveway. A witness said they saw two young men running from the scene of the crime.
That same night, within about 20 minutes of the Crawford shooting, two gunmen had attempted to shoot two motorist on Humboldt Parkway, which was nearby to where Crawford’s mother lived. According to an article from The Buffalo News, “detectives have theorized that Crawford may have been the random target of two young thrill-seeking gunmen.”
Crawford’s wallet was not stolen, there was no evidence to indicate the shooting may have been a robbery attempt.
Crawford’s daughter, Shamina, was 5 when her father was shot, she only has a few very vivid memories of her father, including the night he was murdered. Her brothers, Kalif and Jabari were only 2 and 1. Being so young, they have no memory of their father, and rely solely of pictures and stories from family members.
